Cloud Defensive tends to make some really smart design decisions that are usually brought out by a frustration they have had with something that they have used. The REIN or Rail-Mounted Environmental Illuminator continues with this trend.
We got to check out the Cloud Defensive REIN and Micro REIN today in their suite.
REIN Development
The early prototype at the bottom, the one used to test battery movement under fire in the middle, and the production version of the REIN at the top.
Packaging
Demo packaging that will come with the light and a charger with a battery just like the OWL.
Features
The REIN lens is user-replaceable just like the OWL and has the same hardened tool-steel bezzle to protect things from unfortunate accidents.
Here, the REIN modular tail switch is broken down so that a tape switch can be installed.
The REIN has the cable routing out the side, which means no snag.
The light has a push button and you can swap out the tail cap for a tape switch and push button. The tape switch runs out the side of the tail cap allowing it to run close to the rail meaning less snag. Not only that but the tape switch is electrically isolated from the push button. That way if one fails, the other still works.
The other really cool feature is the internal ring. It allows you to snug up the battery so it can’t flop around in the flashlight housing.
Just like dicks, not all 18650 batteries are built to the same length.
This also means that batteries of differing lengths won’t be an issue.
Note the orange attery snug-down ring.
Expect to see much more on the REIN later when we get our hands on these.
