If you’re like me, you don’t always carry a bag or purse. If anything, your pockets are your purse. It’s quick and convenient, plus you can’t lose your pockets like you can lose a purse! However, keeping things organized is not an easy task when you only have so much space. That’s where the PLATY Pocket Organizer comes in.

I had the lovely opportunity to take two of Maxpedition’s PLATYs with me on my trip to Arizona. Both configurations of the PLATYs are incredibly lightweight—even the larger size is only 2.1 ounces—and they maintain their shape while empty. I’ve reviewed the Double Decker EDC Pocket Organizer previously, and the PLATY is perfect if you prefer a low-profile version with all the great functionality.

Inside the back zipper pouch: Flash drive, 8mm stubby ratcheting wrench.
But where does the name come from? According to Maxpedition, “Platy,” meaning “flat,” refers to the slim, low-profile design that fits in pants, jackets or cargo pockets. Plat is pronounced rhyming with “flat”.

500D-Denier Ballistic Nylon
Denier is simply the name given to the width and thickness of the fibers that make up nylon. The term is similar to a thread count in sheets and pillowcases. According to MMI Textiles, this material is “specifically tested and made to meet military specifications by ensuring the fabric meets tear and break strength, colorfastness, water repellency and more.”. Some of the common uses include outdoor gear, military carrier bags, tactical vests and gear, duffle bags, luggage and more.

YKK Zippers and Tracks
Like all its products, Maxpedition utilizes YKK zippers. YKK is a high-end zipper brand with the philosophy of “Cycle of Goodness—no one prospers without rendering benefit to others.” Their quality zippers are used in diving suits, winter sportswear, car seats, and space suits. They are held to a very high standard and undergo rigorous testing, which is why companies like Maxpedition use YKK-manufactured products.

PLATY Pocket Organizer – Pros
First, the feature that grabbed my attention was the paracord. I appreciate that it’s removable and that, even if you just want it out of the way, you can pull it into the back zippered slip pocket.
While I tested out the EDC value of the 4″ x 6″ PLATY, my tactical and practical partner tested out the 5″ x 7″ PLATY Pocket Organizer. The larger PLATY did, in fact, fit in a cargo pocket even while carrying his set of Allen wrenches and needle-nose pliers!
In fact, to quote my partner, “I feel like Mary Poppins with all that stuff in my pocket”.

PLATY Pocket Organizer – Cons
One thing of note is that the middle elastic band on the front is a tad bit in an awkward spot, but other than that, it works well. Honestly, it could serve as a decent wallet alternative.
