Most of our crew — as always, we won’t speak for all — prefer SOG tools to SOG knives. Many of our minions have, like you, used SOG on duty and in foreign lands — SOG is after all one of the three most ubiquitous manufacturers of multitools. The other two in widespread use are of course Gerber and Leatherman, though there are obviously others.
That preference said they do make some good blades and these Quakes might be our favorites yet. We haven’t actually T&E-ed them mind you, but they certainly feel like something you’d enjoy using to throat fuck some asshole in a man dress.
The Quake, like condoms, comes in 2 sizes — there’s the regular Quake and Magnum Quake XL. Here’s how SOG describes the latter.
“Just by opening this knife, you’ll know how it got its name. The Quake is one of our largest folding knives. With that, it is powered by our SAT 2 (SOG Assisted Technology) that propels the blade open with just a push of a thumb. Instead of a thumb stud, the cross guard folds in when closing the knife and is used as the lever to assist with the opening motion. Combined with a thick dual-tone VG-10 blade, forged aluminum handles, full length stainless steel liners, the Quake is one formidable knife that packs a punch.”
- Largest and fastest SOG assisted blade with built-in safety
- Patented deployable hand guard for easy one-handed opening
- Satin polished 4.5-inch VG 10 blade with anodized forged aluminum handles
- Reversible low-carry pocket clip
- Overall length: 10.3-inches, Weight: 7.8-ounces, Lifetime Warranty
There’s not a whole lot of difference between that and the regular Quake, to wit:
- One of the largest and fastest SOG assisted blade with built-in safety
- Patented deployable hand guard for easy one-handed opening
- Satin polished 3.5-inch VG 10 blade with anodized forged aluminum handles
- Reversible low-carry pocket clip
- Overall length: 8.5-inches, Weight: 5.8-ounces, Lifetime Warranty

Where is the blade made?
I still love SOG blades with that SEKI stamp, an d I have a bunch of their older blades, but that new Chinese stuff is SHIT.
