Man of War is an upcoming action film starring LaMonica Garret. Given LaMonica Garrett’s role as the lead door-kicker, you might think it’s of his Operation: Lioness. It’s not. This is a standalone shoot-em-up flick set in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Our protagonist is a former NSW hitter (because of course he is) whose adopted daughter, Riley (an aid worker, played by Resmary Yaneva), has been captured.
Man of War Movie Trailer
Take a look at the trailer. See what you think. This is LaMonica Garrett in the movie Man of War.
As you prob’ly already gathered, the action thriller is about Garrett’s character launching what the JSOC-types call an “Unconventional Assisted Recovery” (UAR) to get his adopted daughter back from Kharkiv, in Ukraine. He starts on his lonesome, which is what you’d expect in a flick like this. After hitting the ground, he acquires some hardware and local help. And from there it’s all high-volume fire, explosions, and lots of free dirt naps.

Various allies and villains are played by such actors as Jason Patric, Andrew Howard, and Daniel Bernhardt.
We’re a bit confused by the protagonist’s name, unfortunately. IMDB has it as Connor, but Riley calls him Mike in the trailer. So, Mike Connor maybe?
Man of War looks to be far more along the lines of Extraction than Taken, which is juuuust fine with us. We’re big fans of action heroes who stack bodies with good gun-handling skills. LaMonica Garrett seems to have a handle on that, and Kaufman has definitely delivered great fight scenes with realistic weapon manipulation in the past.
His work as Tucker in Operation: Lioness and Bill Cox in The Terminal List likely has more than a little to do with that. Less so his role as Thomas in 1883, though it’s possible at some point during Man of War we’ll could see him putting an S&W Schofield or 1866 Yellow Boy to work.
Unlikely, but possible. John Wick used a Franken-revolver in Parabellum (nice nod to Tuco Ramírez there), so stranger things have happened!
Man of War is directed by William Kaufman. He’s the same guy behind Daylight’s End, Sinners and Saints, Warhammer One, Shrapnel and others. It was written by Kaufman and Paul Reichelt. It’ll be released on 03 July 26 (which is a pretty savvy date to drop a new action flick, sez we).
