We couldn’t build a Canadian rifle without getting a part from our friends at Cadex Defence (spelled the Canadian way). In this case, we picked up the Cadex Defence Unitized Scope Rings to meet a few requirements we had for the mount. It needed to have a bubble level, and preferably a Picatinny rail on the forward ring for a red dot later on.

Each item from Cadex is meticulously machined, as you know if you’ve ever owned anything from the company. The factory is not only impressive in size but ludicrously clean, which speaks to the Cadex Defense philosophy: clean useful designs that elevate the warfighter. In our case, we ordered the 34mm scope mount rings to house a scope that we plan to cover in a future article. They have several different versions of the ring tops to pick from depending on if you want just plain rings or if you need to mount accessories.

The Picatinny front rail is the perfect size for most accessories.

We wanted the rail on the forward ring in case we get the chance to ever run this rifle under night vision with a laser mounted to the top. However, we will primarily use it to mount a small reflex sight in the future. We are looking at the offering from Armament Technology. It could be used to easily get the scope on target under higher magnification, or for shots under 50 meters.

The Bubble Ring is Just Right

The bubble level on the rear ring is what I consider to be the perfect height. It doesn’t block the turret, it is easy to read, and well protected from damage. We sometimes have an absolute inability to align a rifle perfectly vertically — as some might say “as crooked as a used car salesman.” However, with the bubble level and the scope cap on the left side, it takes a quick look to see how horrible you are. For those of you who might not realize this, you need to draw a perfect verticle line from the center of the bore to the center of the scope. If the line is off at any sort of angle it will affect how your rounds land downrange. If it’s tilted, you have to make windage adjustments and elevation adjustments that affect each other.

The bubble level is low enough to be non-intrusive.

These Scope Rings are Groovy

Several small grooves are inside the scope mount. These aren’t there to reduce weight. They are there for rosin to be added to help hold the scope for heavy recoiling rifles. This isn’t always needed but it’s something that could certainly help. In our case, though, the mighty power of 5.56mm is not going to cause an issue.

The bottom incorporates two large lugs in the center of the mount to keep it firmly attached to the rail. Along with this is two large bolts to clamp the mount to the rail.

Stay Tuned for More on The Apologizer Build

We are only missing a few vital components to finish off The Appologizer Build. A scope and a bipod might round out this build, both of which we already gave you a sneak peek of in this and the accessories article.
