The Safariland Schema is an IWB (Inside the Waistband) rig designed for concealment. It is described as having a smaller footprint than “traditional’ inside-the-waistband holsters, though we haven’t tested the absolute accuracy of that comparison.

Schema holsters are available from the following locations:
- Gun.Deals
- Safariland’s website
- Optics Planet (note: they’re described as leather on this site; that is incorrect)
- On Amazon (note: the description on Amazon reads Bianchi, not Safariland; not sure why)
- Palmetto State Armory
- Primary Arms
Safariland Schema Rundown
Like most CCW/off-duty rigs, the Schema holster utilizes passive security only, meaning – though some will argue the point – it is not a retention holster. We’d definitely call it a minimalist holster.
Even though it’s not as “minimal” as other models, it is very lightweight, sleek, and easy to conceal.
The Schema is compatible with a wide range of pistol optics, including:
- Romeo Zero
- RMR CC
- Shield RMS
- Shield RMS-C
- Swampfox Sentinal
- Hex Wasp
- Holosun 407K
- Holosun 507K
- J-point
- Crimson Trace 1550 or similar optics.
Schema Holster Reviews
Reviews on the Schema seem to trend toward a good enough but not perfect rating, though the reviews left on some retailers are better than others. This could mean a lot or nothing, though you have to wonder if that’s due to a difference in the knowledge levels and/or background of the various customers.
We’ve linked a couple of examples below, beginning with those left on the Safariland website itself.
Cabela’s
As of this writing the Schema holds an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 on the Cabela’s website.
The reviews on the Bass Pro Shops site are almost identical.
Amazon
On Amazon, for instance, they rank between 4 and 5 stars (closer to 4), but that’s at least partly due to some reviews that leave us scratching our heads.
We’re not saying you’re a window-licker; we’re just saying if you buy a holster that is not compatible with a light, you shouldn’t leave a 3-star review because your light doesn’t fit…
“There’s a lot to love about the Schema holster (including the price), but I believe the greatest endorsement I can offer is that it does all three things a holster should do—secure your firearm, conceal it, and offer instant access—without unnecessary cost or added weight. There are other minimalist holsters on the market, but most fail to offer the quality features you’ll find on the Schema.” Brad Fitzpatrick, Guns & Ammo
“The Schema is not the most comfortable holster I have used. However, it is also not the worst. For under $30, it provides some decent features on a simple grab-and-go holster. It is not likely to become the everyday holster of choice for most users. The best use case for this holster is probably as a lightweight backup or spare holster option in addition to a more premium rig.” Daniel Y, The Firearm Blog
The Schema holster will not work with suppressor height sights.
