We previously covered the Gunfighter 14, Gunfighter 24, and Raid LT 32 showing the different load carriage options that Mystery Ranch recently released. The final piece of the puzzle is the largest of the bags the Blackjack LT 35. The Blackjack LT 35 has more of a traditional rucksack look to it. Let us dive into what makes this bag tick.
On the front of the bag, you get two reasonably large zippered pockets. The bottom one can hold four AR15 magazines or other similar-sized gear. The top pocket is sized to hold the Mystery Ranch IFAK however, in my opinion, you should always have an IFAK directly on your chest rig, belt, or plate carrier not a pack. Extra on the pack is great though and a perfect place for an owie kit. The lid on the pack also has a zippered pocket which is the perfect location for tossing a GPS or your eyewear. The lid is also the location of the large velcro panel for all your patch needs.
If you have read the other articles we did on the new assault packs you will be familiar with the laser-cut PALS webbing they had on the bags. The Blackjack LT 35 has these panels on the front two pockets along with the sides of the bag increasing the potential storage size and organization of the pack significantly. Under the side PALS panels, you get stretch water bottle pockets that can also carry things like spare smoke grenades.
The pack has two compression straps per side that can do double duty holding long items to the side of the pack like trekking poles or a tripod. The right side of the bag features a zipper that runs down the full length of the bag giving you access to the bottom of the pack similar to the tri-zip of other Mystery Ranch bags. This is a fantastic feature for a large bag keeping you from having to pull everything out of the bag to get that one item on the bottom. I would have liked to see both sides of the bag zip down to open up the entire front similar to the quad-zip.
The pack has the ever-familiar Futura Yoke giving you adjustment for height, contoured straps to fit the body well, and of course a sternum strap. The waist straps on the bag can be used or stowed into little pockets on the pack. All of this is slathered in 3D spacer mesh to aid in cooling.
Inside the Blackjack LT 35 you get a mesh pouch for easy contents identification. The sides and back of the pack have PALS webbing for more internal organization. You also get a couple of pouches with elastic toppers and a zipper passthrough for comms or hydration. There isn’t a toggle for holding the hydration bladder though which we hope they add.
The Blackjack LT 35 being a light pack has more storage than the 3-Day Assault pack but comes in at almost a pound lighter. It comes in a host of colors as long as the colors you are looking for are Multicam or Coyote Brown. You can pick yours up here or from your favorite Mystery Ranch dealer.
