Although most of what we consider to be the “tactical industry” is to be found on this side of the Wall, some of it is actually headquartered on the other side of it. You know, up where they fly Canuckian sigils and enjoy things coooold.

More Canadian Than A Beaver Drinking Maple Syrup While Wearing A Toque, Eh!

Much like Paul Revere, people at SHOT this year were shouting “The Canadians are coming, the Canadians are coming!”.

I am the lone Canadian of Breach Bang Clear at SHOT each year, and am always happy to see new and old Canuck companies gaining traction within the industry. So today I would like to highlight some of those companies who I met with at SHOT Show 2020. This is by no means an exhaustive list but does cover the majority of them. For ease of navigation, we have created a table of contents below to jump to the desired section and back to top links at the bottom of each section.

Oh, and these are in no particular order, eh?

Table of Contents

1.NANUK Plastic Storage and Travel Cases
2. MDT Precision Rifle Parts and Accessories
3.Ultimatum Precisions New Actions
4.Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag
5.BLK LBL Bipod
6.TriggerTech Two-Stage Remington 700 Trigger

1.NANUK Plastic Storage and Travel Cases

NANUK has been at the plastic case thing for a while now and with each year they continue to offer more clever storage solutions for everything from firearms to drones or even your “precious” if need be. At this show, they had a few new items along with a couple we had not seen before. First up is the 918 3UP Revolver Case.

Nanuk 918 3up Revolver Case

NANUK 918 3UP Revolver Case

The 918 3UP Revolver case offers a generous amount of room for storing your wheel guns with barrels from 3″ long to 8″ and calibers all the way up to .500. The internal foam protector is also cut for a NANUK desiccant pack to keep moisture from rusting your stored items.

As you can see internals has ample room for trigger locks on all of the revolvers if you are stuck with Canadian storage laws or just want a little extra security for your firearms.

NANUK 935 6UP Pistol Case

NANUK 935 6UP Pistol Case

For the serious pistol enthusiast or agency requiring some extra pistol storage or transport options the NANUK 935 6UP Pistol Case can hold… you guessed it 6 pistols and 10 magazines. You can also add in the optional lid organizer pictured here to hold documentation, tools and cleaning supplies, snap caps or even spare parts.

2. MDT Precision Rifle Parts and Accessories

MDT or Modular Driven Technologies have quickly become one of the larger chassis manufacturers along with makers of a ton of accessories for them. The big piece of news for them this year was the XRS Chassis System.

MDT XRS Chassis System

MDT XRS Chassis System

The MDT XRS Chassis System is a chassis for those looking for more of a classic rifle stock feel but with all the benefits of a chassis. The stock includes length of pull adjustments, an adjustable cheekrest, M-LOK forend, and even interchangeable grips.

MDT XRS Chassis System Interchangeable Grips

MDT XRS Chassis System Interchangeable Grips

The XRS Chassis looks to be a solid option that can be heavily adjusted to meet the user’s preferences and is coming in at a solid price point.

MDT One Piece Scope Mount With Accessories On The Left and MDT Poly/Metal Short Action Magazine On The Right

MDT One-Piece Scope Mount With Accessories On The Left and MDT Poly/Metal Short Action Magazine On The Right

MDT released the Poly/Metal Magazine a bit before the show and it looks like it includes the best of both style of magazines. The new accessories for the One-Piece Mount don’t appear to be released just yet but we look forward to seeing what else they make for it.

MDT's Unnamed Vertical Grip

MDT’s Unnamed Vertical Grip

Last but not least is the yet to be named Vertical Grip from MDT. This thing retains the fore and aft adjustment of the other vertical grip however, it now adds a slight amount of tilt, is rubber over-molded and will work on AR10’s and AR15’s. The grip is also thicker which my massive meat hooks were happy to feel.

3.Ultimatum Precisions New Actions

Ultimatum Precision had quite a bit to take in at their small booth this year. They released two actions one of which I must have as a trainer rifle. This year saw them dropping a Deuce with their rimfire action along with the Tikka inlet compatible DeFacto action.

Ultimatum Precision DeFacto Tikka Footprint Action

Ultimatum Precision DeFacto Tikka Footprint Action

The DeFacto shares a lot in common with the Deadline action from them. It is a 3 Lug bolt, uses Remington 700 Triggers and will require minor fitment with current Tikka stocks and chassis. You can see from the picture above that the area under the safety will need to be milled or filed out for clearance in order to work with the fatter bolt and trigger hangar. This action is rumored to come in a lot cheaper than the Deadline and will allow Tikka users more options and a better trigger selection.

Ultimatum Precision Deuce Barreled Rimfire Action

Ultimatum Precision Deuce Barreled Rimfire Action

If you were not paying attention to any SHOT coverage this year rimfire actions are the new hotness. Ultimatum not wanting to be left behind released the Deuce at the show this year. They are going to come as a barreled action with an IBI 22lr Olympian Cut barrel. Sadly no pictures of the barrel as mine turned out terrible for some reason.

Ultimatum Precision Deuce Action With Bolt Removed

Ultimatum Precision Deuce Action With Bolt Removed

The Deuce is a Remington 700 inspired action that will fit stocks and chassis along with triggers. The really cool feature of this rifle is the adjustable headspace using the IBI barrel. 22lr ammo has a ton of slop in rim thickness and this will allow the rifle to be tuned to the ammo you are using. I really want to toss one of these into the XRS Chassis I posted about above. The Deuce will take Vudoo Gun Works magazines however, Ultimatum is currently working at making their own. I was also told there will be a version 2 of the Deadline action with new bolt internals and a slight difference in the outward appearance on the action. The bolt internals will be backward compatible if you want a gen 1.5 style action, more on this later as I will be doing this. These actions were just previews though as they are not released yet.

4.Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag

A ton of Canadians have been waiting on Cross Industries to get their 10/10 Cross Mag out to the market and it looks like this is the year.

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag

The 10/10 Cross Mag solves an issue for those of us in places with magazine capacity law issues. 10 Round pistol AR15 magazines don’t play nice with ordinary magazine pouches. These act as an extension so they fit normally and you have another 10 rounder on the other end of the magazine.

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag Color Options

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag Color Options

The 10/10 Cross Mag will release in 3 colors and each set comes with 2 magazines and the coupling bases.

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag Parts

Cross Industries 10/10 Cross Mag Parts

The great part of the 10/10 Cross Mag is in the coupling system allowing the user to decide on cant and bullet direction of both magazines. This means you can have it set up the way you want it when you rotate the magazine to reinsert it after your other magazine goes dry. Expect to see these at dealers in the next couple of months.

5.BLK LBL Bipod

BLK LBL was up in the Next area at the 2019 SHOT Show and was too busy to get to when I had some time to check out other things. Thankfully this year they graduated to a booth on the lower floor and I got to get a good demo of the BLK LBL Bipod along with some hands-on.

BLK LBL Bipods

BLK LBL Bipods

The BLK LBL Bipod is a forend with an integrated bipod. The legs of the bipod are held up with magnets and with a pull downwards to deploy from the handguard.

BLK LBL Bipod Legs Stowed

BLK LBL Bipod Legs Stowed

With the legs stowed into the handguard, the rifle maintains a slick appearance avoiding snag points. This aids in working a barricade hole or just not getting caught on branches.

BLK LBL Bipod Tilt and Pan

BLK LBL Bipod Tilt and Pan

Just forward of the bipod legs is a tension ring allowing you to adjust how tight the pan and tilt are. This allows you to get a nice level rifle even on difficult terrain. They currently have a Bipod for numerous other firearms that use AR-style handguards.

6.TriggerTech Two-Stage Remington 700 Trigger

A bunch of TriggerTech Two-Stage Triggers have been in the wild for a bit now being tested but it appears they are ready to release the trigger everyone has been screaming at them to make.

Trigger Tech 2 Stage Diamond Trigger

Trigger Tech 2 Stage Diamond Trigger

The TriggerTech Remington Two-Stage Trigger joins its very popular sibling in the Remington 700 trigger world.

TriggerTech Single-Stage Left and Two-Stage Right

TriggerTech Single-Stage Left and Two-Stage Right

As you can see in the above picture the right trigger being the Two-Stage variant has a lot more going on under the hood. It has two adjustments instead of the one that the single-stage has. You can adjust both stages for pull weight and due to a mechanical lock inside the trigger, it won’t be able to fire unless the first stage is completed. These should be releasing very soon but expect them to go very fast.

7.Portable Winch

While browsing the SHOT Exhibitor list by country I happened to stumble upon these guys. Portable Winch is a manufacturer of winches… that are portable. (nothing slips past you our readers)

Portable Winch makes several different models of winch but these two caught our eye. Lots of times we have been in the woods and had to hump a come along or a Tirfor with us to drag, move or convince something to come in a certain direction. The issue is they are painfully slow and quite tiring to operate. You can’t get an ATV with a winch everywhere either so one of these systems would be very effective.

With a pack like this, you could hump the winch, rope and some snatch blocks into a remote area and really move some things along.

8.Cadex Hunting Rifles

Cadex is known for making some seriously impressive rifles for the military and civilian shooters alike. They have recently dipped their toes into the hunting rifle market with the release of the CDX-R7 CRBN and CDX-R7 SPTR.

Cadex CDX-R7 CRBN

Cadex CDX-R7 CRBN

The CDX-R7 CRBN is Cadex’s top tier variation of the rifle combining lightweight materials for a light but strong rifle. The CRBN designation stands for Carbon as this baby has a Proof-Research barrel in it.

Cadex CDX-R7 SPTR

Cadex CDX-R7 CRBN

For those afraid of change or those who just are not sold on carbon fiber, there is the CDX-R7 SPTR which offers a regular stainless steel barrel. Both rifles are offered in long and short action in a host of calibers and they even include a muzzle brake for whatever model you get.

9.Newcon Optik Thermal Rangefinder and Night Vision

We wrote about one of Newcon Optiks other range finders being in use by the Canadian military around this time last year. This year they were showing the Newcon Optik Sentinel MLRF at the show and we were impressed with it from our short hands-on.

Newcon Optik Sentinel MLRF Thermal Rangefinder

Newcon Optik Sentinel MLRF Thermal Rangefinder

The Sentinel MLRF had multiple modes and uses a digital detail enhancement that leads to some of the most interesting thermal output we have seen. You can see in the top corner a shot through one of the eyecups showing the amount of detail it can have. This unit is also boasting some pretty impressive ranges. It will be interesting to see how it works in the real world.

Newcon Optik NVS 15-M Night Vision

Newcon Optik NVS 15-M Night Vision

Newcon Optik was also showing their new dual eye dual tube night vision at the show. It was nice to see the update in the NVS line. The added depth perception of having a second tube is truly something to behold. Both of these are in the 2020 catalog but have yet to be released on the website.

10.Armament Technologies Optics and Optic Accessories

Armament Technologies have a special place in the “tactical” industry for me as they are also from the same province. They act as the big distributor for ELCAN, manufacturer of Tangent Theta, Tennebraex, and seller of their most recent accessory the XOPTEK reflex sight.

Armament Technologies XOPTEK Micro Reflex Sight

Armament Technologies XOPTEK Micro Reflex Sight

The XOPTEK is a mini red dot with a side battery access that comes in 4 and 6 MOA dots. Originally designed to mount to the to of the ELCAN Specter rifle sights. They have come out with a Picatinny mount and are working with OEMs on pistol mounting plates.

Tangent Theta Long Range Hunter

Tangent Theta Long Range Hunter

Tangent Theta was displaying the new Long Range Hunter at the show. Those of you who are familiar with the TT315 should be fairly familiar with this scope. It does have a few changes under its hood. First being a less cluttered hunting specific reticle which resembles a standard Mildot style reticle in either MOA or Mrad. The other change is the guarded windage and elevation turrets. The top picture shows the cover slid down and when it is like this you can’t make any changes. A simple pull up though engages the mechanism allowing you to dial as normal.

Tenebraex Laser Filter killFLASH Combo

Tenebraex Laser Filter killFLASH Combo

With high power lasers being used for night vision targeting or by people looking to blind you laser filters are becoming a necessity. The Tenebraex Laser Filter killFLASH combo is a smart little device. You can see a notch at the top of the body. This is because the glass is tilted in order to reflect the laser down and into the killFLASH anti-reflective device.

Tenebraex Polarized Filter

Tenebraex Polarized Filter

Anyone who has used polarized glasses or a circular polarizer on their camera knows how useful they can be. Tenebraex will be releasing a much more streamlined version of their previous polarizer. The Tenebraex Polarizer is basically a flip cap with a circular polarizer attached. This is great for removing reflections and haze.

11.Arc’teryx Cold and Wet Weather Gear

A Canadian article wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Arc’teryx booth to see their new offerings. Arc’teryx was showing off their Cold WX LT line and Assault SV softshell combat uniform.

Arc'teryx Assault SV Softshell Pant And Shirt

Arc’teryx Assault SV Softshell Pant And Shirt

The Arc’teryx Assault SV line consists of a pant and shirt designed to be worn in cold and wetish weather with body armor. The uniform is made of a TWEAVE Durastretch softshell material allowing it to have flexibility while still protecting you from the elements.

Arc'teryx Cold WX LT Hoody And Pant

We talked about the warmer version of the Cold WX a few years ago in this video. They now have a Cold WX LT Pant and Hoody for those who don’t need quite as much warmth but still need to battle the negative temperatures.

12.International Barrels Inc. Barrels

International Barrels Inc. or as most refer to them IBI has really made a name for themselves in the barrel game. People using their barrels have been rapidly winning competitions and have shown up on industry celebrities builds also. The new offering from them this year was a carbon fiber wrapped barrel. I already have three of their barrels what’s one more right?

IBI Stainless Barrels

IBI Stainless Barrels

Within the last year or so IBI has started to offer fluted barrels for those who want to cut some of the weight, add cooling, or just to look cool.

IBI Carbon Fiber Barrels

IBI Carbon Fiber Barrels

Speaking of cutting weight the new hotness for IBI this year was their Carbon Fiber Barrels. They showed me a video of them doing some destructive testing on one and it held up amazingly well. If this shoots half as good as their stainless barrels the hunting and lightweight crowd will be scooping these up in droves.

13.Adventure Tactical Trilobyte

Most people in the military have seen a strobe by Adventure Tactical without even knowing it. The VIP Strobe used to be one of the premier vest or helmet-mounted strobes. The Adventure Tactical Trilobyte Gen4 has certainly dethroned it with a bunch of really smart features.

Adventure Tactical Trilobyte

Adventure Tactical Trilobyte

The major design advancement of the Trilobyte that puts it above the rest is the ability to sync with the other strobes near it. When a bunch of people turn on their strobes at once it looks like some sort of night vision rave going on. Having numerous strobes blinking in unison makes friendly force identification much easier.

On top of that, the whole thing works on a widely available AA battery. The unit is also capable of learning flash patterns for signaling or unit differentiation.
