The Grand Power Stribog started out life as Grand Power’s entry into the US Army’s Subcompact Weapons Trial in 2018. This Slovakian sub gun was concurrently released as a semi-automatic pistol. It came at a lower starting price than other braceable pistols on the market but had few takers until Global Ordnance of Sarasota, Florida picked up the platform. The Grand Power Stribog is now on its third generation of improvements and chambered in 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Now the Stribog is available in the potent 10mm Auto cartridge as the Stribog SP10A3.
The Grand Power Stribog SP10A3 is a blowback operated pistol. It features a monolithic aluminum M-Lok handguard and upper receiver mated to a polymer lower. The upper features a section of Picatinny rail for both a weapon light and optic. The pistol has an eight-inch fixed barrel that is threaded for 1/2×28″ accessories. One point of appeal of this latest generation Stribog is its largely ambidextrous controls. The charging handle is nonreciprocating and can be changed to the left or right side of the handguard. The magazine release is a combination button/paddle that is useable from either side, as is the AR-like manual thumb safety. The bolt release is mounted on the left side of the pistol only.
The Stribog can be shot as a pistol-grip-only handgun or equipped with a stabilizing brace. SB Tactical makes an excellent brace for the Stribog. The HB Industries brace used in our review is another well-designed unit and it is foldable for the smallest possible form factor. By far the most appealing feature of the new SP10 is the fact that it is chambered in the potent 10mm Auto cartridge. The 10 rivals the .357 Magnum cartridge in an autoloading pistol platform, while the .357 is used primarily in revolvers and lever action rifles.
The Stribog represents a new and growing category of 10mm firearms outside the traditional handgun flatform. Thanks to the Stribog’s eight-inch barrel, the 10mm cartridge enjoys an extra 75-150 feet per second compared to a traditional 4-5 inch barreled handgun. Add the braceability and a healthy 20-round capacity and the Grand Power Stribog platform opens the 10mm up for longer range personal protection and hunting possibilities.
