A waterproof lighter is, to our minds, a Good Thing, not least because it’s airtight — no, not the adult film term airtight, you nasties. This is the Extotac titanLIGHT. It is just such a firestarter (or stogie-burner) and it’s worth a look or three if you’re on the hunt for some
The ExoTac Titanlight is made in the USA. It’s been around a while (in fact it was a top in Issue 23 of OFFGRID Magazine).
This article originally ran in December 2017.
Exotac is a small but widely recognized company hailing from Winder, Georgia (where they spell Bulldoggs with two Gs). They describe themselves as “engineers of extraordinary fire-starting tools, outdoor products, and everyday carry accessories,” and we see no reason to dispute that.

The titanLIGHT’s flint wheel produces a high spark, not one of those irritating barely-see-ums that end up pissing you off or making you burn yourself.
Here’s how they describe the titanLight:
“[It is] a precision machined, ultra-durable waterproof lighter that uses lighter fluid as fuel. This lighter won’t leak and water is no match for it. The O-ring seals allow for a longer interval between lighter fluid refills. And as always, its construction quality is unrivaled and represents what Exotac has become known for. Made in the USA from aircraft grade aluminum, it is designed to provide reliable service for a lifetime.
The titanLIGHT is an excellent little lighter that has performed well for those of us who’ve had one for a few years now. Definitely worth throwing into some sort of kit bag.
The titanLIGHT uses patent pending air vents below the flame to reduce wind disturbance along with a flame guard that is designed to provide maximum protection against wind gusts. A small screw-off cap on the bottom of the lighter body is used to both refill with lighter fluid and to service the wick. The flame guard can also be removed without tools: Simply press the small brass pin through and pull off the flame guard to access the flint and spring.”
It will also set fire to shit…and we like that.
The ExoTac titanLIGHT is available in various colors: some that are tacticool, so you look awesome, and some what more pragmatic (at least for those of us who have a hard enough time keeping track of stuff even if it’s not FDE, grey, or black).

Try the nanoSPARK – or for that matter their NanoStriker – if you’re one of those pseudo-granola traditionalists who look down on the rest of us simple folk. We’ll prob’ly stick with the ExoTac lighter, cuz we’re lazy like that. Check out the review on OFFGRIDweb.com.
