A year ago, Surefire gave us the XC3 pistol weapon light, sort of a smaller cousin to the X300 series. The light was more compact than its predecessors, both physically and in the handgun for which it was designed. The next (and obvious) iteration was released at SHOT Show 2026: it was, as you prob’ly already know if you’re canny enough to be reading this website, the Surefire XC3 Sub LED WML.

SUB=subcompact.

Why should you care? It’s just one SKU – read on and I’ll explain further.

Meantime, here’s what Surefire’s Trevor Oosterhof and Trevor Oosterhof’s mustachio had to say at SHOT Show 2026.

Let me break that down for ya just a little more.

Surefire XC3 Sub Specs and Features and Other Things

Fully powered and under optimal conditions, the XC3 Sub throws an impressive thousand lumens of white light, with 13,000 candela shaped and directed by the parabolic reflector inside the head. The range on that is reported as 228 meters; runtime at this setting is 3/4 hour (45 minutes).

That’s a long reach for such a small light, especially considering the size of the handgun that it’s intended for. Positive Target Identification (PID) isn’t guaranteed at that range; there are just too many other factors involved there, but that’s still a damn good potential distance for PID.

Some other things to know include:

• Power: The XC3 Sub runs on a single battery. You can choose a rechargeable SFRCR123 lithium battery (for max light output) or, if necessary, a single 123A lithium primary battery. (In the latter case, your output drops to 550 lumens and 7,200 candela with a range of 170m, but your runtime goes up.
• Ambidextrous toggle switching with momentary- and constant-on activation.
• Aluminum construction with hard anodized finish (MIL-A-8625 TYPE III, Class 2 if ya care).
• Interchangeable rail clamp mounts facilitate secure attachment to a variety of subcompact handgun models.
• Loading port: you reload the battery behind the bezel; quick and easy, just like Slim.

About That Single SKU

Remember earlier when I mentioned the significance of the XC3 Sub’s “single SKU”? Here’s what I meant.

There are subcompact pistol lights of varying quality available from other manufacturers, but the main contender in my mind has been the Sub(s) lineup from Streamlight. And make no mistake, they’re good lights.

However, the TLR-7 lights vary by platform. There is a Glock 43/48 TLR-7, another for the various P365 lights, yet another for the Springfield Hellcat, etc. They’re not interchangeable, at least not without some field expedient redneck engineering. You can’t switch your light from gun to gun if they’re a different make or model.

That’s not the case with the XC3 Sub.

It’s non-denominational.

When you purchase a Surefire XC3 Sub, you get the light and access to a variety of mounting pieces. This allows you to swap out clamps to fit the rail type you want to mount to. That might not be a big deal to people who can afford a buffet of lights, but it’s definitely a strong selling point to those of us who don’t rake in the big OnlyBangs bucks.

One SKU, one light, multiple handguns. Nicely done, Surefire.
