The hot sauce world has been experiencing a renaissance over the last few years. Much like bacon and other fad foods of yesteryear, more and more often, we, as Americans, are starting to put more and more hot sauce on things. We’ve gone from a world where the most you’d see on your average cafe counter is that ancient bottle of Tabasco long past its youth to shows about interviewing people while they eat hot wings. There are many options for good hot sauce now, so we will help you narrow it down and introduce you to General’s Hot Sauce, a mission-driven heat.
Veteran-Owned, American Made
Before we get too far into this article, this is not a review, just an overview of a veteran-owned company you should look at. I have only had their Grunt Green flavor, and while I liked it and plan on getting more, I want to ensure what we’re doing here is evident.
So, let’s talk about what makes General different. Their whole thing is about creating a quality, premium product and making it for a good cause. In addition to their veteran-owned status, they focus on creating jobs for veterans and actively support several veteran-based charities and foundations. They also use only American-grown peppers in all of their sauces.
“If you’re looking for cheaply made, cheaply priced products that are loaded with chemicals or cheap filler ingredients (like extracts, xanthan gum, or even water), we are definitely the wrong company for you. But if you care about authentic, all-natural products made by an organization that is committed to goals that extend far beyond just maximizing profits, then check out our flavors.” – The General’s Hot Sauce ‘About Us’
Pepper Prep’
I’ve never been a massive fan of hot sauces that are more vinegar than pepper, and based on everything I’ve seen, the General feels the same way. Every single one of their bottles has a “Dog tag” attached that proudly states they’re made with 86% Peppers. They claim the industry standard is 20%, which I could totally see, especially when even smaller hobbyists report 25-40% peppers based on my limited research.
They start with American farmers. Every pepper they use is grown right here in the U.S.A. Apparently, they can trace the pepper back to the farm and even the acre it was grown on.
Flavors Galore
They have quite a few flavors, heat levels, and even variety packs to choose from, all with fittingly themed names.
