Meet part of the team of subject matter experts we use to write commentary, offer stunningly clever professional insight, outstanding tactical tips and of course brutally thorough kit evaluation (all without ever resorting to hyperbole or smart-ass exaggeration).
Breach-Bang-Clear offers a lot of commentary pertinent to those on the sharp end, provides devastatingly insightful social commentary and performs a substantial amount of gear and apparel evaluation. For the commentary on matters tactical or current affairs, we just write about whatever has our attention at the moment or demands further discussion. When it comes to equipment T&E however, we are more organized. We typically have 2 to 4 members of our team run each piece of kit through its paces and provide their opinions to the Mad Duo for a formal write-up. There are about two dozen members of the team, some of whom appear below. To answer the obvious question: one or two members of the eval team are actual qualified and accredited Mad Duo handlers. The rest just do what they're told. Or else. We have thus far been privileged to provide evaluations, and frequently positive testimonials, to such manufacturers as 511 Tactical, Tactical Tailor, Wild Things Gear, LazerLyte, Tactical Duostock, Revision Eyewear, Ontario Knives, Wellco Boots and many other manufacturers. If you would like to have your equipment evaluated by the Maddest Duo to ever fight evil, contact us at BreachBangClear (at) gmail.com. Please be aware, however, that if we find a piece of equipment wanting we will say so. We have, unfortunately, lost the support of one company that did not care for the results we reported.

Det. Rick Lopez has been involved in tactical operations for over 30 years. A member of LAPD SWAT from 1982 until his promotion and assignment to the Narcotics Division, he worked entry, was a crisis negotiator and a master breacher. He created and ran a specialized training unit within the Narcotics division with LAPD, and continues to run the training for that department’s Reserve Police Officer program. During his tenure with LAPD Rick worked the Southeast, Hollywood, Metro and Narcotics Divisions. A Harley rider since the age of 16 and Rangemaster for Andrews International for the past several years, Rick has been appeared on the History Channel as a subject matter expert, was the weapon handling instructor for the cast of the movie Street Kings and is a UCLA accredited Lifetime Teacher. In addition to a successful career as a highly sought after consultant on matters tactical, he continues to teach entry, breaching, shooting, officer safety, less lethal and many other topics to numerous local police and several Federal agencies. Rick has been described by the Mad Duo, quite accurately, as a strange mix of Dirty Harry, Jack Bauer and Cheech Marin. |

Eric Wilber is a fifteen year veteran of the Michigan State Police, the last several years of which he has been assigned to EST (Emergency Support Team, the MSP tactical unit). A Marine Corps veteran, where he served as a Light Armored Vehicle Crewman, 3RD Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion out of 29 Palms, he is an experienced tracker and an instructor in several disciplines (including Small Squad Tactics, Quick Action Deployment, Raid Entry, Tactical Tracking, et al), teaching at the lengthy (and arduous) tactical academy new EST members must successfully complete to complete Selection for the EST. A contributing editor for many years to the Michigan State Police Magazine, Eric is also a patrol officer servicing in a hometown security capacity focusing on high crime areas. He would have a longer bio on here but begged the Mad Duo to relent and not pontificate, at least about him. He is a handsome devil, but not as good looking as the Duo. |

SSgt Jerry Fennell is a Platoon Sergeant with the USMC. He's done two tours in Iraq, the first with Weapons Company 2/23 Marines during the initial invasion of Iraq, the second with Weapons Company 2/24 Marines during 1008 as the Platoon Sergeant for the Battalion Commander's Personal Security Detachment.
He's a Combat Tracker (instructed by David Scott-Donelan and Centurion Training Group), Marine Corps Combat Marksmanship Instructor (rocking the pith helmet), USMC Personal Protection Specialist and an Anti-Tank Guided Missile Command Man. Additionally he has trained with and conducted a number of training iterations for local LE agencies, including various tactical, low-light and fieldcraft courses. When not accidentally terrorizing local children, Jerry enjoys Copenhagen and boot-scooting. No, seriously. He does.

Sgt. David Reeder is a military and civilian law enforcement veteran of many years, with former active assignments in Patrol, Training and Special Operations (including one five year tour with a multi-jurisdictional drug task force and two years as an LE scenario development coordinator and Observer-Controller for the National Homeland Security Training Center). He is a former MOUT and SWAT instructor, but for the last several years has taught predominantly Combat and Tactical Tracking to civilian and military units. He has trained with or conducted training for numerous agencies and units here in the United States and abroad, recently completing a tour as the NCOIC of Operations for a USAF Security Forces squadron. Sgt. Reeder has deployed overseas several times (including OEF and OIF tours) and currently maintains his police commission as a reserve officer with a municipal agency. He's better looking than Wilber, but still has nothing on the Mad Duo.

A life-long career grunt, he takes a child-like joy in breaking things and killing people, and truly enjoys a fine seeeegar.

Sgt. Rodney Garner is another longtime professional with both civilian and military law enforcement experience. Formerly with the U.S. Army, now with the USAF, Rodney worked for a County Sheriff's Department between the two before returning to active duty. He spent many years with the Bold Lightning Urban Warfare School and has also trained with or conducted training for many military and civilian units.
A semi-professional MMA fighter, Sgt. Garner was an Observer-Controller for the National Homeland Security Training Center and has also deployed overseas several times for OEF and OIF. Rodney acts stand-offish about the Mad Duo, like working with action figures isn't cool or something, but the truth of the matter is his hero worship for the Duo is the worst of everyone on this page. A blunt and plain-spoken SNCO, Rodney sounds like Barry White on field comms.

Sgt. Isaac Sherman is a military law enforcement veteran of six years, with former active assignments in Patrol, Plans, and Programs, and a current assignment in Standardizations and Evaluations. He has provided instruction in defensive tactics for patrolmen within his unit and has served 2 tours in Iraq, performing perimeter and outside the wire security missions, among others, which is where he acquired his taste for being willfully bald. Sgt. Sherman is still serving on active duty, at a miserably small Air Force Base in the Midwest. Much to the constant consternation of his peers, he is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee. When not at work, he can usually be found doing homework, crawling the web or working on a doomsday device in a lab underneath his garage. He is the Mad Duo's token liberal and a Godless heathen, but for some reason we like him well enough to keep him around. One day, you will all bow before him. |
