Barrett SHOT 2018
By: Fifty Shades of FDE
SHOT Show’s first stop for me was Barrett, because that FDE Suppressed Rec7 caught me eye. Jordan Progar of Barrett showed me around the booth and told me what’s new with the iconic semiauto .50 Cal sniper rifle manufacturer.
The Rec7 has a carbon fiber rail with an aluminum picatinny accessory rail up top and suppressor heat shield. It looks badass and felt well balanced when I picked it up.
They have a new caliber this year: the .224 Valkyrie. It’s a lightweight cartridge intended to hit at ranges of 1000 meters and beyond. It gives you with a lighter platform with less wear and tear than a .308 or 6.5.
They also have a lightweight bolt gun, as well as a semi-auto AR platform.
Next was the M240LW, an enhanced M240B made to modernized standards, with a 1-Piece receiver that is Nickle Boron Coated. The LW stands for Light Weight, weighing 7lbs less than the Bravo. It features an adjustable stock, keymod/MLOK handguards and fully adjustable carry handle.
I couldn’t leave without asking about the .50 semi-auto beast, the latest, updated version is the M107A1. It was redesigned by Ronnie Barrett with input from end users, who wanted something lighter, suppressed and accurate. The receiver is now aluminum instead of steel and many parts were replaced with titanium. It features the QDL Suppressor. It weighs in with a 20″ barrel without the suppressor at 27 pounds. Still heavy as hell, but compared to the original M82 at 40 plus pounds, that’s one hell of a diet!

SHOT Show 2018
This SHOT Show 2018 SHOTREP has been brought to you by the eeeee-light writin’ team at Breach-Bang-Clear. You’re welcome. Why are we focusing so much attention on SHOT, you ask? Is the NSSF SHOT Show that important, you wonder?
Is a pig’s ass pork?
The National Shooting Sports Foundation annual Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade show may be just one of many conventions in Vegas, (as you can see by checking out Vegas Means Business), but it’s definitely the most important one in our world…well, unless you count the AVNs. Besides, as we’ve explained (NSSF SHOT Show 2018 Approacheth), this year is SHOT’s 40th anniversary — meaning it’s damned near as old as the most seasoned dancer at Nancy’s Squat ‘n’ Gobble! (We’re not entirely sure how old Industry Day at the Range, or as it’s also called, Media Day at the Range, really is.)
Regardless — we’ll be providing industry press releases and lots more from the floor. There’s damn sure gonna be a lot to talk about.
You can find all our SHOT Show 2018 articles in the SHOT Show 40th Anniversary lineup.
Stay tuned to this freq for gun news, industry news, adventure gear, outdoor equipment, and whatever else we see that we think you might like.
