SHOT Show History: Ultra Light Arms

SHOT Show History: Ultra Light Arms

SHOT Show 2018 is the Show’s 40th Anniversary

News Desk

January of 1985 saw Springsteen’s Born in the USA hit #9 on the charts, the end of stapled centerfolds in Playboy, and the first appearance of Ultra Light Arms at SHOT Show.

As the NSSF explains it in their latest Blast from the Past article, Ultra Light Arms was less than a year old when it made its Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor, Trade Show debut that January in Atlanta.

Mr. Forbes spoke to the NSSF about that first show.

“I remember I was looking for furniture for the booth, and asked a guy how much it would cost. When he told me, I said, I don’t want to buy it, I just want to rent it! He said, You are renting it. Welcome to show business.

“We incorporated Ultra Light Arms in September of 1984. When I decided to attend SHOT Show, I had four complete rifles and was out of cash. I wrote letters to all the magazine editors and big-name gun writers of the time, told them we were building a .308 Winchester rifle that weighed 4.5 pounds, had a composite stock, a Douglas barrel and a Timney trigger. Jim Carmichael with Outdoor Life was the only one who responded. Twenty minutes after the 1985 SHOT Show opened on the first day, Carmichael came by the booth wanting to look at the rifle…Our success was totally dependent on the show.”

Read the whole story and learn more about both the company and the man — who has attended 33 consecutive SHOT Shows.

SHOT Show 2018

This has been another NSSF SHOT Show report. Why are focusing so much attention on it? Is SHOT Show that important?

Is a pig’s ass pork?

The National Shooting Sports Foundation annual Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade show may be just one of many conventions in Vegas, (as you can see by checking out Vegas Means Business), but it’s definitely the most important one in our world…well, unless you count the AVNs. Besides, as we’ve explained (NSSF SHOT Show 2018 Approacheth), this year is SHOT’s 40th anniversary — meaning it’s damned near as old as the most seasoned dancer at Nancy’s Squat ‘n’ Gobble! (We’re not entirely sure how old Industry Day at the Range, or as it’s also called, Media Day at the Range, really is.)

Regardless — we’ll be providing industry press releases and more from the floor. There’s damn sure gonna be a lot to talk about.
